Connecting by Listening, Observing and Then Speaking

Alot of people buy based on their feelings. If their feelings are warm and positive about a product or you, they are more inclined to purchase. If there is something negative in their feelings, you will never convince them. So, remember how important it is to connect with potential customers who are people first. Put yourself in their shoes, be empathetic, interested and truly concerned. Offer whatever, solution you can to their situation. This might help them decide to purchase or sign up with you, or it might not. But even if they are not interested, they might refer a friend to you or later on be interested in your promotions.
The best product or service in the world will fail to engage people if they do not see how it will help them or solve a problem for them. So, stay connected, be a good and sincere listener. Do not throw sales pitches at them. Or has some marketers say, “do not vomit on them with your pitch.”
Think about this, God gave you 2 eyes, 2 ears and 1 mouth. So, use your eyes and ears first, then speak. Certainly ask some questions about them and offer to be of service, but remember to wait and listen for answers to your questions. You will be able to better understand the needs, desires and wants of this person……at this point offer them something of value….something they presently need and it might not be your sales pitch! It might just be some simple advise and direction. Just be a friend and who knows where it will lead you.

One Response to Connecting by Listening, Observing and Then Speaking

  1. That’s really nice. Another thing I would add is that if we’re really listening we have to stop ourselves from formulating our next comment while the other person is speaking. We’ll hear more and we’ll “get” the other person’s meaning more fully.
